This wonderfully carved Indian shrine would have been set into a wall and used to house the family's favorite deity in a Hindu Gujarati household. Dating from the 19th century, the central area has been converted to hold a shelf. The traditional Mughal mirhab arch is flanked by two pillars surmounted by parrots.
This house temple still has many layers of its original and earlier paint.
This shrine is unusually tall and today, it could be used as decorative shelves or as a side table.
